Lord Midaz

The great Lord Midaz is a god among everyone, as he was the first to succeed in creating peace with the Arena Brutalis. It all started when Lord Midaz was a kid. He was a fairly small meowkin prince and was the only son of the Pawkins the Great. Pawkins the Great was leader of the Meowkin, and a famous strategist who led the Meowkin to many victories. Pawkins accomplishments were known around the world, and he was feared by his enemies in battle. But Pawkins the Great never wanted to conquer others, instead he wanted peace. Pawkins the Great learned to love peace from his late wife and Midaz’s mother, Flufferina. Peace was a novel concept at the time, everyone considered it a joke and unobtainable. Society enjoyed violence. Pawkins the Great created several truces over his time, none lasted long. Peace was only good on paper, and that paper burned. Pawkins gave a lot of attention to Midaz growing up. Midaz was a smart and clever child. He learned all that he could from his father and showed great promise. Midaz was taught the idea of peace by his father and he never stopped thinking about it.

When Midaz was 12, Pawkins the Great fell ill. Soon later, Pawkins the Great died, and Midaz became king. The Meowkin kingdom mourned Pawkins for months, and Midaz was give the keys to the castle. Midaz never wanted to be a king and demanded everyone call him lord. Lord Midaz reserved the title of King of Meowkin for his beloved father. Lord Midaz did a good job of continuing his father’s legacy; he preserved Meowkin life for all. When he was 16, war between Meowkin and Caninia erupted, called the War of Kibble. Lord Midaz was at the forefront of this war, commanding his troops to victory. However, war took a toll on Lord Midaz, he began to stress eat. Lord Midaz ate large quantities of candy all the time; he was addicted to sweets.

Towards the end of the war, an almost successful assassination attempt was made on Lord Midaz. Lucky to survive, Lord Midaz was left with a scar, a torn right ear. Seeing violence and the fragility of life up close, Lord Midaz swore to end all war and to accomplish his father's dream of peace. He saw how much pain it has caused, and how nothing was truly accomplished from it. Lord Midaz left his generals in charge to continue the war, and he made his return home. Lord Midaz never stopped thinking about peace, and it was his mission to accomplish just that. Lord Midaz tried offering truce to other empires, bribes, anything he could think of. Peace was not so easily had, and everyone declined. Lord Midaz had to think of something else.

While on a stroll to burn off some excess candy weight, Lord Midaz saw two kids fighting. They yelled and bickered over a single toy, each wanted to play with it first. Their mother angrily told them to stop, and the children could resolve this by playing a game; the winner plays with the toy first. The kids played a simple game of rock, paper, scissors, and the boy who won got the toy. This gave Lord Midaz an idea. Lord Midaz knew of two farmers that had a dispute with each other for years, claiming a certain spot of land was theirs. Lord Midaz visited each of the farmers and gave them each a chance to win the land from the other, but only for one year. After each year, each farmer would have to recompete. Lord Midaz had them try rock, paper, scissors. Both farmers thought it was a dumb idea, and the conflict continued. What worked for the children did not work for an adult. However, Lord Midaz knew one thing that everyone did enjoy, violence. Call it animalistic nature, or just being a sadist, this was a fact for all Meowkin. Lord Midaz then gave each farmer another chance, telling them to pick a champion that will duel it out in combat. The champion that wins the battle, wins the land for their farmer that year. For several years, champions were picked, a champion would die, and a farmer would win. This satisfied each farmer, even if it was killing their families and loved ones. This competition drew a crowd, but it lacked pizazz, as the competition itself was boring and ended too quick. Flesh was easily broken.

Lord Midaz then decided to spice things up and create a local arena, but instead of people, they would fight using the war machines, Animus Engines. Animus Engines could fight longer, be customized, and were exciting to watch. The Meowkin loved the battles and thirsted for more. Lord Midaz found something that brought others together by pitting them against each other. He solved the problem of the farmers and in the process, brought joy to others. Now he was determined to share it with the world.

After several years of preparing, Lord Midaz created a huge Arena for the Animus Engines and decided to invite all the other empires to compete in yearly games. Empires could compete and win a giant trophy called the Primus Gloria, but in return, would have to agree to halt any wars. He called these games, Arena Brutalis. Most empires thought this was crazy at first but were persuaded by battle and the trophy. First few years of the games were a little rocky, but eventually, all the empires loved it. Everyone looked forward to Arena Brutalis, and no one wanted to fight senseless wars anymore. Arena Brutalis created peace for the first time in history.

The games continued for decades. Lord Midaz was recognized by all as the game master, the peace bringer, and even the messiah to some. He was perfect except for one flaw, his sweet tooth. Lord Midaz loved candy, and only ate the best from around the world. He also got quite fat because of it. Gifts were constantly being sent to him from all the empires, and one day he received a mysterious package full of all his favorite candy. Wary that it would be poison, he had a taste tester try it, and all seemed fine. After seeing that it was safe to eat, Lord Midaz hastily devoured every single piece of candy with great delight. It wasn't until a few days later when both him and the taste tester fell ill. It was a completely unknown type of poison that worked slowly and doctors couldn’t figure how to remedy it. Death succumbed to both the taste tester and Lord Midaz, and the world was shocked at the death of their peace creator, not so much the taste tester; people forgot about him.

After Lord Midaz's death, the empires started to blame each other, the Arena Brutalis stopped, and war sparked once again. The Meowkin would have civil wars and break into smaller factions, and everything seemed bleak. They called this time the Bleak; everyone was sad, angry, and depressed. Animus Engines saw rust for the first time and there was no comedy, no fun, no candy, and most of all, no combat games. War returned

This was until 3165a.d. when a mysterious group called the Golden Quinctus came to reunite the old truce and start the Arena Brutalis. The legacy of Lord Midaz would live on and be better than ever.
